Our Story: A Legacy of Service and Science

On February 1, 2000, Dr. Tom Olson and Dr. Ann Date opened the doors to Partners in Change with a vision: to blend community service with the science of psychological assessment and treatment in a way that created lasting, meaningful outcomes for clients.

With just the two of them—and the occasional help of their then 13-year-old son, Joe Date, answering phones—they laid the foundation for a practice rooted in care, collaboration, and scientific integrity. What started in a single location has now flourished into a thriving practice with over 50 dedicated professionals, four offices across Michigan (Midland, Mt. Pleasant, West Branch, and Wayland), and the privilege of serving over 600 clients each week.

A New Chapter: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

On February 1, 2025, after 25 years of dedication, Drs. Olson and Date officially passed the torch of leadership to Julie Bayardo, LMSW. This transition was thoughtfully and carefully planned over several months to ensure continuity, stability, and strength. Julie, who brings her own depth of experience, shares in the founders vision and is committed to preserving the practice’s core values while guiding its continued evolution.

Her leadership honors what came before and brings new energy to what lies ahead: deeper roots in the communities we serve and a renewed commitment to growth and healing.

Tom and Ann express their deepest gratitude to the incredible staff and community members who have made their journey so meaningful. As they step back to enjoy life by the water (and in the woods)—places that remind us all of restoration and reflection—they do so with confidence in the thriving legacy they’ve built.
